About our Voluntary Welfare Organisation
The Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) is a non-profitable organisation established in 1976, that aims “To equip persons with special needs, through best practices in education, training and support services, for open employment and lifelong learning, in partnership with our stakeholders and the community; and to be a premier organization that develops individuals with special needs to their fullest potential so that they can lead dignified, fulfilling and independent lives as integral members of society.”
APSN provides a wide range of services to help persons with special needs such as Speech & Language Therapists and Art Therapists, so that they will be equipped with essential skills for their future life. APSN also sets up various schools for different age groups. For example, Katong School is for students between 7-16 years old, while Delta Senior School is for ones between 16-21 years old. After graduation, APSN will assist students to find possible employment so that students can lead a more independent life; and offer suggestions and guidance in significant decision-making at important junctions of life.

About Citi-YMCA Youth for Causes
Our team
Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes (YFC) is a community initiative started by Citi and the YMCA of Singapore in 2003. Funded by Citi Foundation, the programme is a catalyst to promote social entrepreneurship and community leadership development among Singapore youths. It provides youths aged 15 to 25 with a platform which includes seed funding, training and volunteer mentorship for executing self-initiated projects to raise public awareness, funds and mobilize volunteers for Voluntary Welfare Organizations (VWOs) of their choice. YFC complements the “Values in Action” (VIA) programme as part of Ministry of Education’s Character and Citizenship Education. The youth, comprised in teams of four, will demonstrate values such as harmony, respect and responsibility as they champion their social causes.
This programme has been part of the President’s Challenge since 2005, aiming to empower participants to be the masters of their own project, while working closely with VWOs in Singapore, and gaining first-hand experience in organizing events to champion a social cause. Students get to learn lessons outside of the classrooms to spark their entrepreneurial spirit, and be developed into socially responsible community leaders.

The team has solicited support from Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) as their voluntary welfare organisation (VWO). By implementing various activities such as Street sales and concerts, and working closely with their VWO, the team aims to raise both funds for the less fortunate and less privileged, as well as awareness about the obstacles they face in life, so as to create a more inclusive and welcoming society for them to fully stretch their potentials and lead a dignified and meaningful life.
